Girl are you a solid, liquid, or a gas?
Because you matter.
Are you Bose-Einstein condensate, because you’re cold and dense.
Are you plasma, because I’d like to freely exchange electrons with you.
Are you at the tri-point, because I could blow you, have you inside me and lay on you all at the same time
Can I be the phasor to your electron and take you to an excited state?
Yeah. It was a ticking time bomb…. like most of America.
There should be riots across this entire country.
It’s funny how statistics can tell us truths we aren’t even looking for. What this statistic says to me is that there’s a certain level of melanin that amounts to probable cause all over america. What this means is that while the whites who were stopped have a higher percentage of actually doing the thing they were being stopped for, being black is such an obvious indicator of untoward and criminal activity that we’re stopped more often in relation to the instances of actually doing anything illegal.
The real problem with this situation in my opinion, is that it creates a false dichotomy. We start pointing fingers and saying “Look these other people are doing the wrong things more than we are, go harass them instead.” That is not a progressive way to deal with this. What really needs to happen is an end to the profiling which necessitates and end to racism, the police, and the prison industrial complex really. Those are goals I’m willing to work towards.
Reasons why I’m excited for “Dear White People:”
- Black actors portraying 3-dimensional characters
- Honest social commentary
- Targeted to the college age demographic
- Thorough exploration of the various forms of racism in America
- Tessa Thompson’s voice and Tyler William’s afro wig
Reasons why I’m not excited for “Dear White People:”
- White people calling it racist
- Mainstream media agreeing with the white people calling it racist
Been waiting for this movie for so long. So happy it’s real and I’ll be able to see it soon!
